Sydney - will it see the light?
EARTH HOUR : 60 minutes to show that it matters
Australia is not really seen as a country that is truly working for the environment. Only two countries didn't sign the Kyoto Protocol - unfortunately, Australia was one of the two!.
Maybe things are slowly changing. Here is an initiative being put forward to Sydneysiders - will they take up the challenge? We'll know next Saturday night!
In the meantime have a look at the website and see what it is they, the Sydneysiders, are being asked to do and why...

The Tragedy of Child Soldiers
The Tragedy that won't go away..... Child soldiers.
After just recently having seen 'Blood Diamonds' this has caught my attention.
It is an album which has been produced to raise money to help re-educate children who have been used brutally by so-called members of the human race....
It's in French, but don't let that deter you, child-abuse of any description has no specific language, pictures tell the story more vividely than words ever could...

How far have we come...
How far have we come - and how far do we need to go back?
Did you look at the lovely satellite views of our planet? Then read on...
How far away from the earth do we have to go in order to see the forest despite the trees?.
Around the planet there are so many conflicts, so much bloodshed, hunger and deprivation - we have become 'localised' seeing only what we are shown by the media. Each time we see a suffering child or a mother holding her dead infant we cringe and say thank goodness we are safe!
One issue which is gaining momentum and collecting more and more supporters as it spins it's way around the globe, is the global warming issue - this is one huge item on the Earth's agenda that more and more people are becoming involved in - and from the 'top' down, finally!
I take my hat of to Al Gore in his continuing, relentless perserverance with the people of this world - he continues to travel and show his up-to-date documentary anywhere and to anyone who will give him a chance. Have you seen it yet?
'An Inconvenient Truth' , definitely will have you thinking - even if you thought that it was impossible for the scientists to measure absolutely everything to prove the theories!

Worth watching
You've probably seen his photos - especialls 'La terre vu du ciel' (the earth viewed from the skies), Yann Arthus-Bertrand has taken some spectacular photos, but that's not all. He is deeply committed to our earth and our environment.
Go to his website and see some of his work. It is mostly in French but some sections have English translations.
From there you can go and discover some other areas which deal with our environment. Particularly, the good planet website
Another website to look into is the World Wildlife Foundation. Here you will find how you can help the animals of our planet and yet more on the dreaded global warming issues...

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES - POLAND
POLAND SET TO DESTROY THEIR OWN ENVIRONMENT>>>>
Recent update on the Polish Highway debate...
The most recent update to the debate over the Rospuda River Valley highway.... the wetlands are included in the EU's Natura 2000 conservation scheme .... has at least stopped the construction whilst the Polish government takes real time to look at the alternatives instead of just 'bulldozing' ahead without the slightest thought about it's environment.
Poland seems hell bent on catching up on decades of communist rule - now it's a 'develop or perish' attitude - don't look to either side, put in the ear plugs - don't listen to any piece of advice - just put your boots on and develop (maybe a misnomer in this case!).
